Details

Kikoti Tented Lodge is a “fantasy turned reality” for the traveler who defines luxury through authenticity rather than modern flash. This camp evokes the reminiscent grandeur of the traditional safaris of the past, where comfort is defined by campfire ambiance and the rustle of canvas.

Meaning “the home of the beginning of life” in Maasai, Kikoti is deeply woven into the local community. Situated on a 30,000-acre private game concession, the camp is heavily involved in conservation and Maasai development. The main lodge, a double-rondavel structure, features a bar carved with animal motifs and an inviting fire pit where safari stories are shared under a violet, star-filled sky.

The Maasai Steppe Fringe Located about five miles east of Tarangire National Park, Kikoti sits on a private concession at the edge of the Maasai Steppe. Its remote location is its greatest charm, placing you far from the high-traffic tourist routes and deep within a landscape of tropical earthy aromas and pristine wilderness. The Tactical Advantage:

  • Exclusive Activities: Because Kikoti is located outside the park boundary, guests can enjoy activities strictly prohibited inside, including night game drives and guided walking safaris.

The Silale Vantage: The camp looks west over the Silale Swamp. Being positioned here allows guests to watch the sunset cast a rosy blush over one of the ecosystem’s most vital permanent water sources.

Tented Cottages on Stilts Kikoti features 16 spacious tented cottages, each elevated on wooden stilts to provide a unique perspective of the surrounding woodlands. The Guest Experience:

  • Traditional Canvas: Each cottage is enclosed in traditional safari canvas under a large thatched roof, providing extra shade and an authentic “Under Canvas” soul.
  • The Wooden Veranda: Every cottage features a private veranda with safari chairs, perfectly positioned for watching the sunset over the blue valley below.
  • Refined Simplicity: Interiors are furnished with unique wooden writing desks, cushioned papasan chairs, and hardwood beds draped in marvelous gauze.

The Night Symphony: Fall asleep to the sound of the warm wind whistling against the canvas and the distant call of nocturnal creatures.

Boma Dinners & Bush Gastronomy Dining at Kikoti alternates between the natural elegance of the dining room and the raw magic of the bush.

  • The Maasai Boma Dinner: On alternating nights, guests enjoy a wonderful bush dinner served inside a traditional Boma (thorny enclosure). This includes a dinner buffet and traditional Maasai dancing under the stars.
  • Double-Rondavel Dining: When not in the Boma, meals are served in the open-sided dining hall, creating a natural environment that connects you to the outdoors.
  • Bush Picnic Boxes: For those heading out on long game drives, the camp provides gourmet breakfast and lunch boxes to be enjoyed in the heart of the savanna.
  • Solar-Heated Comfort: After a day in the dust, enjoy a hot “bladder shower” heated by the African sun.
  • Night Game Drives: Experience the thrill of seeing elephants and zebras illuminated by spotlights under a waxing moon.
  • Walking Safaris: Guided walks behind the camp and around Kikoti Rock offer a rare, intimate connection to the land.
  • Conservation Commitment: A portion of your stay supports a Maasai trust fund for schools, medical clinics, and anti-poaching efforts.
