Details

Lahia Tented Lodge is an indulgence for the senses and fulfillment for the soul. Set in a secluded spot half-way down the Western Corridor, the lodge features an organic design that blends soulfully with the environment. Natural stone and gnarled timber turn the common living areas into a delightful extension of the natural world, while thatched canopies offer a timeless “safari-chic” aesthetic.

The atmosphere here is far from pretentious; instead, it is aimed at pure comfort and delight. From the main house, guests enjoy a unique 360º panoramic view of the sprawling Serengeti landscape. Whether you are dining under a ceiling open to the sun and stars or relaxing in the rim-flow infinity pool, Lahia provides a serene connection to the pulse of the African wild.

In the Path of the Herds

Lahia is strategically situated near the Mbalageti River, a natural migration route for wildebeest and zebra. This prime location puts the lodge directly in the wake of the thundering path as the herds trek toward Lake Victoria.

The Tactical Advantage:

  • 360-Degree Vistas: The lodge’s hilltop position offers arguably the best panoramic views in the park, overlooking both the Central and Western Serengeti.
  • Migration Milestone: Located halfway down the Western Corridor, it is ideally positioned for the northward migration in May and June and the southward return in November.
  • Secluded Luxury: Its position away from the main road ensures a quiet, “off the beaten path” experience even during peak travel months.

The Valley and the Plains

Lahia’s strategic position allows for exceptional exploration of the Western Serengeti’s most diverse habitats:

  • Mbalageti River Valley: Covering 540 square miles, this valley links the southern plains to the western woodlands. It is a natural funnel for the Great Migration, offering phenomenal game viewing as herds surge through its hills and riverine areas. It is also the primary nesting site for the Martial Eagle, Africa’s most powerful raptor, and home to massive troops of baboons.
  • Musabi Plains: A stunningly expansive area of grasslands surrounded by verdant acacia woodlands. Musabi is a vital “off the beaten path” circuit and serves as the favored breeding ground for the Topi antelope.
  • The National Emblem: Giraffes (Tanzania’s national symbol) dominate the Musabi woodlands, alongside high concentrations of elephants that feed on the tender acacia leaves.

Predator Circuit: The open grasslands of Musabi provide excellent visibility for spotting lions and cheetahs stalking their prey across the sweeping vistas.

The Hillside Chalets

The lodge features 25 tented chalets spaced far apart along the hillside to ensure complete privacy and tranquility.

The Guest Experience:

  • Thatched Elegance: Each chalet is housed under a traditional thatched roof with polished hardwood floors and a separate sitting area featuring a love seat and writing desk.
  • The Private Veranda: Shaded decks with safari chairs offer the perfect vantage point for watching a gilded sunrise cast an ethereal glow over the woodlands below.
  • Safari Dreaming: Beds are draped in luxurious mosquito nets and plush bedding, complemented by a nightly turndown service.
  • The Morning Ritual: A tray of fresh coffee, tea, and cookies is delivered to your chalet each morning at your prearranged wake-up call, allowing you to start your day with the sounds of the Serengeti.
  • 360-Degree Main House: Featuring panoramic windows that allow sunlight—and starlight—to stream into the lounges and dining room.
  • Infinity Pool: A spectacular spot for cooling off while scanning the plains for movement.
  • Modern Amenities: The lodge includes a gym and 24/7 solar-powered electricity for a modern touch in the wilderness.
  • Tanzanite Skies: Every evening, the lodge staff lights a cozy campfire, creating the perfect atmosphere for stargazing and storytelling.
  • Exceptional Service: Warm smiles and a commitment to “luxury through simplicity” make Lahia one of the most unique retreats in Tanzania.
