Details

Constructed in 2019, Lemala Mpingo Ridge is an opulent venue designed to impress. It sits majestically atop an escarpment, fostering an intangible ambiance that appeals to every sense. It is a place where the organic aroma of ancient forests and the dancing light of bonfires under acacia trees create a “fantasy turned reality.”

Beyond the five-star luxuries, Mpingo possesses a rare ability to “get under your skin.” Whether it’s the intimacy of being miles from civilization or the reverberation of lions roaring in the night, a stay here is a transformative experience that lingers long after the African dust has been washed away.

Above the Life-Giving River Tucked deep inside the remote reaches of Tarangire National Park, the lodge overlooks the perennial Tarangire River. While the drive to reach this remote escarpment can be long—especially coming from the Ngorongoro Crater—the reward is a front-row seat to the park’s most game-rich areas.

The Tactical Advantage:

  • Escarpment Breeze: The lodge’s elevated position ensures sensational views and catches cooling breezes, making it a comfortable refuge even during the peak of the dry season.

The “Siesta” Design: Each tented suite features a sunken outside lounge that converts into an afternoon siesta bed—perfect for watching the valley’s “Bush TV” during the heat of the day.

The Tarangire Menagerie Tarangire is a land of giants, characterized by massive baobab trees and the densest elephant population in Northern Tanzania.

  • Tarangire River: The park’s life-giving artery. During the dry season (July–October), it acts as a magnet for long columns of elephants, wildebeest, and zebras, with predators following like a shadow.
  • Silale Swamp: A giant ecological sponge that attracts thousands of animals. Look for great rock pythons curled in tree branches and massive herds of “Tembo” (elephants) grazing in the moisture-rich grasses.
  • Matete Woodlands: The park’s premier location for consistent leopard sightings, set against a backdrop of tall elephant grass and open acacia woodlands.
  • Lemiyon Triangle: A northern sanctuary dominated by colossal, silvered baobab trees and an incredible diversity of raptors, including the acrobatic Bateleur eagle.
  • Burungi Circuit: An adventurous 50-mile loop offering sightings of the shy Lesser Kudu and the massive Eland—Africa’s largest antelope.

Kitibong Hill: A varied landscape of parklands home to magnificent buffalo herds and the rare, calico-patterned African Wild Dog.

The Escarpment Suites The lodge features 15 spacious tented suites, each a masterpiece of strategic positioning and high-end design.

The Guest Experience:

  • Outdoor Indulgence: A signature feature is the private outside bathtub and shower, allowing you to soothe your soul while gazing over the valley.
  • Tented Sophistication: Suites feature large en-suite bathrooms, private decks, and a sunken lounge area that invites total relaxation.
  • Climate Harmony: The suites are designed to maximize cross-ventilation, balancing the authentic feel of sleeping under canvas with the luxuries of a boutique hotel.
  • Modern Amenities: Despite the remote location, guests enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi and full housekeeping services.
  • Family & Group Travel: One of the suites is specifically designed with two bedrooms, catering to friends and family traveling together who wish to share the escarpment experience.

Gourmet by Candlelight Dining at Mpingo Ridge is a sensory journey, blending the elegance of fine dining with the raw beauty of the bush.

  • Four-Course Feasts: Delectable gourmet meals are served by candlelight, featuring international flair and fresh, organic ingredients.
  • The Elevated Lounge: The main lodge area features a large lounge and bar with indoor and outdoor dining areas that offer breathtaking views of the river valley.
  • Bush Dinners: For an additional layer of magic, private bush dinners can be arranged under the vast Tarangire stars.
  • Social Bonfires: The central firepit is the heart of the evening experience, where safari tales are shared under the canopy of towering acacia trees.
  • Infinity Pool & Spa: An elevated swimming pool and full-service spa provide the ultimate rejuvenation between game drives.
  • Night Game Drives: Explore the hidden world of nocturnal predators on exclusive night safaris (booked in advance).
  • Sundowners: Celebrate the end of the day with cocktails atop the escarpment as the sky burns vivid blue and orange.
  • Elephant Watching: Observe herds of “nimble giants” milling in the valley below directly from the lodge’s viewing decks.
