Details

Nimali Mara is an oasis of sophistication where elegance and refinement exude from every detail. From the fine bedroom linens to the large copper bathtubs, this boutique lodge is designed for the discerning traveler seeking a quiet, high-design retreat. The common areas are cleverly hidden within a small kopje among ancient trees and boulders, featuring a lounge and dining area that offer spectacular, unobstructed views of the Northern Serengeti.

The design is a masterclass in “immersive luxury.” To ensure the most exclusive experience possible, the lodge consists of just 10 suites, creating an intimate atmosphere that feels deeply connected to the surrounding wilderness.

The Migration Corridor

The lodge is tactically situated directly on a primary corridor of the famed wildebeest and zebra migration. Its proximity to the Mara River makes it an unparalleled base for witnessing the Serengeti’s most heart-pounding spectacle: the giant herds taking their fateful plunge across the water.

The Secluded North

Nimali Mara provides effortless access to the most prestigious and remote regions of the Northern Serengeti, far from the heavy tourist traffic of the Kenyan border.

  • The Lamai Triangle: This 300-square-mile watershed is one of East Africa’s best-kept secrets. While the Masai Mara to the north is often crowded, Lamai remains an isolated wilderness. Research shows that during the dry season (July–November), the majority of the migration actually resides here rather than in Kenya, offering a far more private and rewarding viewing experience.
  • The Mara River: The southern base of the Lamai Triangle, this is the site of the legendary river crossings. Guests can easily reach key crossing points to watch the massive herds navigate the river’s challenges.
  • Wogakuria & Rolling Grasslands: The topography here is a stunning mosaic of red oat grass, fertile plains, and rounded hills. It is a stark, beautiful contrast to the dense woodlands found elsewhere in the north.
  • Rare Wildlife Encounters: Lamai is the premier location to spot the Giant Eland, Africa’s largest antelope. These massive, elegant creatures (weighing up to 2,000 pounds) are famously elusive but frequently found grazing in these verdant grasslands during the dry season.

The Glass-Fronted Sanctuary

The design of the 10 suites is governed by a single theme: The View. Every architectural choice was made to allow the Serengeti to flow into the room.

The Guest Experience:

  • Panoramic Design: While the side walls are canvas, the entire front of each suite is glass. This maximizes the views and creates a total immersion in nature, while fixed wooden doors provide a sense of grounded security.
  • The Copper Soaking Ritual: Each suite features a signature large copper bathtub positioned by a window that opens directly to the plains. The bathrooms are further refined with twin showers and double vanities with copper basins.
  • The Swing Bed: Every suite includes a private teak deck with a suspended swing bed—the ultimate spot for a midday siesta or a quiet evening scanning the horizon for predators.
  • Discrete Modernity: Sophistication meets function with 24/7 electricity, dedicated outlets for charging camera gear, and a telephone for seamless communication with the lodge staff.
  • Kopje Infinity Pool: A stunning pool built into the natural rock formations, overlooking the migration path.
  • Boutique Privacy: With only 10 suites, guests enjoy a level of service and solitude that larger lodges cannot provide.
  • Strategic Proximity: Located in the heart of the “Crossing Zone,” minimizing drive times to the river during peak migration months (July–November).
  • The Migration Secret: Access to the Lamai Triangle ensures world-class game viewing with a fraction of the vehicles found in the neighboring Masai Mara.
